DAY FAMILY AWARDED PRESTIGIOUS SHEEP INTERBREED FOR SECOND YEAR RUNNING

The Day family from Bordertown, SA have taken out the top prize in the Royal Melbourne Show Sheep Competition for the second year running, with their Suffolk awarded the Paton’s Interbreed Champion Ram yesterday afternoon.

Brothers Alastair and Lachy, along with father Graham accepted the award, which includes the Dalmore Trophy and a $500 cash prize.

Also repeating their success of last year, Wattle Farm Border Leicester Stud was awarded Champion Ewe, with Stud Principal Jeff Sutton on hand to accept the honour.

“This competition is about celebrating excellence in stud sheep breeding and we have seen some outstanding quality sheep over the last two days of competition,” said Mark O’Sullivan, CEO, The Royal Agricultural Society of Victoria (RASV).

“Over 630 sheep were entered this year, which is the most in over five years, so we are really pleased with the result and commend everyone who has taken part.”

The Royal Melbourne Show Sheep Competition winds up today showcasing the Schools Sheep Competition, with all results available at rasv.com.au.
