For the first time, the Royal Melbourne Wine Awards (RMWA) will be showcased at the Hong Kong International Wine & Spirits Fair to be held from November 5-7.
The RMWA is Australia’s most respected wine show recognising and rewarding excellence in Australian winemaking. First conducted by The Royal Agricultural Society of Victoria (RASV) in 1884 the Awards continue to grow each year with more than 3,100 entries received annually from over 530 vineyards from Australia competing for Gold, Silver and Bronze awards.
Over the course of its history, the RASV has successfully leveraged the Royal Melbourne Wine Awards to develop, support and promote excellence in Australian wines both domestically, and more recently to overseas markets – as reflected in the depth, breadth and quality of its entries.
The Royal Melbourne Wine Awards boasts two of the country’s best known trophies including the Jimmy Watson Memorial Trophy for the best one or two year old red wine and the James Halliday Trophy for Best Pinot Noir.
Part of Wine Australia’s presence at the Fair, the RMWA will showcase five Australian gold medal winning wineries including:
Amelia Park Wines, Western Australia
Blue Pyrenees, Victoria
Deep Woods Estate, Western Australia
Eden Hall Wines, South Australia
Sidewood Estate, South Australia
“RASV is committed to providing opportunities for our awards’ participants for local, national and international showcase and to celebrate the excellence and quality of wine produced in Australia,” said Mark O’Sullivan, CEO, RASV.
“The Hong Kong International Wine and Spirits Fair is highly regarded as Asia’s premier wine event, and we are delighted to be showcasing winners from our wine awards programme for the first time.”
