The inaugural School Poultry Competition a success

In its inaugural year at the Royal Melbourne Show, the Schools Poultry Competition Egg Laying section was encouraging, with schools from Victoria and interstate taking part.

A wide range of ages and areas were covered by entries received from Primary to Secondary schools in locations such as Apollo Bay to the Bellarine Peninsula and Finley in NSW. The presentation of the competition in the Paddock to Plate pavilion was well received with the public showing a keen interest in the competition.

The competition saw students care for birds in the lead up to the Royal Melbourne Show, where the quality and quantity of eggs produced was judged to determine the winning schools.

Mr Neil Penny, Chair of the RASV Poultry committee, has already begun planning for next years’ program with the competition supporter, Hyline Australia. Entries should open early in the new year.
