Royal Melbourne Fine Food Awards: Nine additional categories open for entries

RMFFA seal of quality provides real opportunity for producers

Nine additional categories of Australia’s premium fine food competition, the Royal Melbourne Fine Food Awards (RMFFA), open for entries today, with judging to take place in June and July.

Conducted by The Royal Agricultural Society of Victoria (RASV), the world-class awards are continually growing in recognition in commercial markets, with winners experiencing real increases in business success follow award wins.

41 Champion Trophies will be on offer across the various food types, with the 2014 Champion Milk Winner, Troy Peterken of Ingelnook Dairy saying the award win had increased commercial success and profile for the business.

“After winning our Gold Medals and Trophy I can honestly say our company profile lifted overnight. The public is obviously a huge believer and follower of these awards as we have developed new business opportunities and attribute a lot of our success and reputation to receiving this prestigious award,” said Mr Peterken

Echoing those sentiments, Peter Treasure, Wuk Wuk Beef said the awards presented an opportunity for their business to credibly benchmark products, instilling confidence in their processes and production.

“The awards are a great way for us to challenge ourselves in achieving the best we can in our product and benchmarking against our peers for quality. The awards have integrity and as such, the judging process is genuine,” said Mr Treasure.

The RMFFA presents a valuable opportunity for boutique producers, regional specialists and commercial manufacturers to benchmark their products, receive credible feedback from industry experts and establish credentials in Australia’s highly competitive fine food sector.

Entries are now open for the following categories:

  • Branded Beef
  • Branded Lamb
  • Bread & Baked Goods
  • Dairy, Sheep, Goat & Buffalo
  • Ice Cream, Gelato & Sorbet
  • Delicatessen featuring; Dips, Smallgoods & Uncooked Sausages
  • Fresh Eggs
  • Extra Virgin and Flavoured Olive Oil
  • Preserves featuring; sweet and savoury Jams, Sauces, Vinegars & Dressings

Ensuring the awards are industry-relevant and continue to evolve reflecting food and production trends, the 2015 RMFFA also sees the introduction of a number of new classes within the categories, offering greater opportunity to an even wider sector of fine food producers.

“It’s important that the awards are relevant and credible for Australian producers and offer opportunity to not only established, but new and emerging sectors within Australia’s fine food industry. This year we recognised the need to introduce a number of new classes across the Bread and Baked Goods category, as well as Fresh Gelato and Raw Milk cheese,” said Mark O’Sullivan, Chief Executive Officer, RASV.

Mr O’Sullivan said in an era of demand for quality produce, the seal of excellence an RMFFA medal win offers can provide much needed market differentiation for any producer.

The categories now open for entry, are in addition to six categories judged in February and March, with all winners to be showcased as part of the expanded ‘Winning Tastes’ precinct at the Royal Melbourne Show, held in September at Melbourne Showgrounds.
