RMFFA Entries Extended : The search for Australia’s finest foods continues

The Royal Agricultural Society of Victoria (RASV) has announced that online entries for the 2014 Royal Melbourne Fine Food Awards (RMFFA), Australia’s premium fine food awards, will be extended to 6 June 2014.

The RMFFA, conducted by the RASV, promotes excellence in agriculture and food production. The RMFFA provides opportunities for boutique producers, regional specialists and commercial manufacturers to benchmark their products across nine food categories.

The biannual awards (comprising Spring and Autumn Programs) present a valuable opportunity for all producers, large and small, to assess their products and establish their credentials in the Australian fine food industry.

Spring entrants will now have until Friday 6 June 2014 to enter the awards across nine categories:

  • Branded Beef
  • Branded Lamb
  • Dairy, Sheep, Goat & Buffalo
  • Ice Cream Gelato & Sorbet
  • Delicatessen featuring Dips, Tapenade, Smallgoods & Uncooked Sausages
  • Extra Virgin Olive Oils and Flavoured Oils
  • Bread & Baked Goods
  • Free Range Eggs
  • Sweet & Savoury Preserves, featuring jams, vinegars and dressings

RASV CEO, Mark O’Sullivan said, “The level of excellence in the Australian fine food industry is world class and the RMFFA Spring Program is designed to reward and celebrate the exceptional quality of fine food being grown and produced in Australia.

“We encourage producers to enter their products and receive valuable feedback from independent industry experts. The RMFFA judging process significantly benefits producers, as does the seal of quality available for use when marketing and promoting award winning products.”

Words from Past Winners

Brenton Lang from Rustica Sourdough Bakery, Gold Medal recipient for Bread & Baked Goods – Tart:

“We opened the business in April 2012 and entered the 2013 RMFFA only five months later. Winning a Gold for our Lemon Curd Tart has played a strong role in getting our business name out there. We have experienced a 30% increase in turnover.”

Peter Eicher from Salute Oliva, trophy for Champion Table Olives 2013 RMFFA Autumn Program:

“Winning the trophy for Champion Table Olives with our Kalamata olives saw us sell out of our entire annual production before the new season table olives even came online.”

The RMFFA judging panel is made up of leading media, industry and food technology experts. Judging will take place between 23 June and 23 August with Medallists notified throughout August and Champions for both the Spring and Autumn Programs announced at the official Awards Presentation on 22 September at the Royal Melbourne Show.

RMFFA medal winners will have the opportunity to participate in an exclusive Buyers’ Tasting in late August ahead of the official Awards Presentations. The Buyers’ Tasting is a new initiative to provide retail sales opportunities for the 2014 RMFFA award winners.
