The third annual Royal Melbourne Alpaca Show is on this Saturday 11 and Sunday 12 of July and visitors can come and see the unique and adorable animals vying for a coveted blue ribbon free of charge.
Run annually by The Royal Agricultural Society of Victoria (RASV),The Royal Melbourne Alpaca Show draws some of the best alpaca exhibits from around Australia and provides an opportunity for exhibitors to promote and benchmark their stud.
The event will this year also incorporate the Royal Melbourne Alpaca Fleece Show, showcasing some of the best alpaca wool from around Australia.
This year, international judge Mrs Sara Jane Mclennan from Colorado, USA, will be presiding over the event.
Nominated by RASV Alpaca Committee, Mrs Mclennan has been an AOA certified judge since 2005 and has judged both halter and fleece shows across the US and Canada.
She first discovered alpacas when living and working in South America, and upon moving to Colorado, designed and built a farm at the foothills of the Rocky Mountains which became home to several huacaya studs.
Mrs Mclennan is committed to promoting alpaca health and has raised significant funds for the University Veterinary Hospitals in both Colorado and Kansas.
The Royal Melbourne Alpaca Show is on Saturday and Sunday from 10am in Building 4 at Melbourne Showgrounds.
Visitor entry into the event is free and there will be free onsite parking via Gate 7 on Leonards Crescent.
Trains will not be running directly to Melbourne Showgrounds for this event.
