From the sheep’s back to the footy field and high fashion - Australian Wool Innovation to weave its magic at Agriculture: The Heart of Victoria

The Agriculture: The Heart of Victoria Gala Dinner will be opened in style when the latest fashions – from the footy field to the high street – presented by Australian Wool Innovation take to the catwalk.

As a celebration of the best of Victorian produce and the people who produce it, Agriculture: The Heart of Victoria on Thursday 9 June at Central Pier Docklands, will shine a light not only on the finest foods produced by Victorian farmers, but the finest fashions they also help to create.

To highlight the diversity and exceptional quality of Australian-grown wool, AWI has prepared six looks from high fashion to AFL player and supporter wear as part of its ‘Fibre of Football’ initiative, for this year’s gala dinner.

VFF President Peter Tuohey said: “We are thrilled that Australian wool will grace the Agriculture: The Heart of Victoria catwalk. It is a wonderful opportunity to showcase the quality and talent within our wool industry, and to recognise the important role Australian agriculture plays in the fashion sector.”

RASV CEO Mark O’Sullivan added: “With Victoria’s agricultural industry contributing $12 billion to the State’s economy, the Agriculture: The Heart of Victoria gala dinner is the ideal opportunity for the sector to unite and celebrate its achievements.”

AWI Manager of Corporate Communications Marius Cuming will join MC Giaan Rooney on stage throughout the fashion show, providing background on the designs being modelled and insight into AWI’s current initiatives.

From fibre to food, after the fashion parade guests will be treated to a stunning four course menu designed by The Atlantic’s chefs to showcase the best of Victorian produce sourced directly from Victorian producers. The night’s floral arrangement will be themed by Flowers Victoria with assistance from Box Hill TAFE students, while wine will be supplied by the Bellarine Peninsula’s Scotchmans Hill, cider from Napoleone Cider at Coldstream and Furphy Beer from Geelong.

Adding to the night’s star-studded line-up will be guest speaker and Melbourne football icon and country AFL advocate Kevin Sheedy, with MC Australian swimming legend Giaan Rooney.

Now in its fourth year, the Agriculture: The Heart of Victoria gala dinner is the premier event on the Victorian agriculture social calendar, and will be held on Thursday 9 June at Central Pier Docklands. It is presented by the Victorian Farmers Federation and The Royal Agricultural Society of Victoria, in conjunction with major sponsor Coles.

If you’re coming to the dinner, why not make a day of it and attend the 2016 AgriVictoria – State of Opportunity Summit from 9am to 5pm at Melbourne’s Park Hyatt.
