2017 McLennan-McColl Flock of the Year heads to Western Victoria

The 2017 McLennan-McColl Victoria Flock of the Year will head to Western Victoria in March. The on-farm competition is open to all commercial Merino producers in the area and celebrates and assists with improving the quality of Victoria’s merino ewe flocks, with a $1500 cash prize on offer.

Presented in partnership with Merino Victoria, the competition, which will visit properties primarily around the Hamilton and Ararat areas, welcomes the return 2014 RASV Young Australian Sheep Breeder of the Year Mr Daniel Rogers to the judging panel.

Also joining the panel is Mr John Crawford, Principal of the Rock-Bank Merino Stud and winner of the 2014 National Merino Pairs at the Australian Sheep and Wool Show.

The competition, which is named in honour of two of the Merino industry’s most well-respected, wool producer Neil McLennan and sheep classer Keith McColl, will be judged over two days – Wednesday 15 and Thursday 16 March, with the winning property presented on the second evening.

Residents of the area and industry participants are encouraged to attend the judging to view production systems and best practice management, with RASV offering a free shuttle bus service to the competing properties. Further details including property opening times and registration for the free property tour bus will be available in the new year at www.rasv.com.au/flockoftheyear
