RASV's Australian Distilled Spirits Awards (ADSA) programme was represented at this month’s Australian Distillers Association (ADA) Conference in Margaret River by Event Manager, Damian Nieuwesteeg.
Held at the new site of Margaret River Distilling Co.’s Limeburner’s Distillery on Maxwell Street, an off-shoot of the Great Southern Distilling Company based in Albany, the conference was attended by 35 Australian distillers and associated industry representatives. Full day workshops were presented by leaders in the industry, including ADA President Stuart Gregor and Vice President and host Cameron Syme who provided great insight into the growth in the industry in the past twelve months.
There are now 50 distilleries in the country with 15 in Tasmania alone, 45 of which are members of ADA.
The inaugural ADSA, conducted by RASV and recognising excellence in local distilling and spirits was held in February this year, attracting 115 entries from 29 exhibitors across 26 classes. With feedback from industry, competition classes are set to be expanded for the 2016 ADSA in April, and a new trophy introduced to acknowledge increasingly popular small batch production. Additionally, with the growth in industry, participation in the 2016 ADSA is expected to far exceed that of 2015.
