South Australia named 2017 National Young Farmer Challenge Champions

The Royal Agricultural Society of Victoria (RASV) has announced the winning team of the 2017 Australian Young Farmer Challenge National Finals, with South Australia taking out top honours.

State winners from across the country were invited to attend the National Finals, which was held on the opening night of the 2017 Royal Melbourne Show in front of a captivated audience on Herald Sun Arena.

The Young Farmer Challenge is an entertaining, fast-paced event that promotes and celebrates excellence in farming and recognises the next generation of farmers.

Teams of four farmers aged 16 to 30, race against the clock to complete a series of challenges to demonstrate the breadth of technical skills used by farmers in everyday field activities, including stacking hay, leading an alpaca and erecting a portable fence.

RASV CEO Mark O’Sullivan said the competition recognises the importance of supporting future development of the agricultural industry.

“Through a number of initiatives including the Emerging Leaders in Victorian Agriculture Awards, Rural Ambassadors Awards, Youth Dairy Scholarship and Young Farmer Challenge, RASV is committed to encouraging youth involvement in agriculture,”

“Congratulations to the winning team representing South Australia, who have been awarded the title of National Champions for 2017 in a tight race to the finish line.”
