The dog competition was first held at the Royal Melbourne Show by the Department of Agriculture in 1875 when 213 dogs were entered.

The competition has grown considerably since its inception now boasting world class judging panels and is continuous enhancements to exhibitor facilities.

Nine days of judging during the Royal Melbourne Show includes confirmation classes, Obedience, Agility Games, Jumping and Agility, demonstrating a variety of dog breeds and disciplines for visitors to see.


The Dog Committee has eight members, each of whom is appointed by The Royal Agricultural Society of Victoria’s Board of Directors. The Committee’s role is to work with and advise The Royal Agricultural Society of Victoria to deliver the Royal Melbourne Show All Breeds Championship.
